The Traveling Dress Collective - A Motherhood Society Collaboration

The Traveling Dress Collaboration is a brilliant creative project brought together by several photographers within the Motherhood Society (Beauty & Lifestyle Mommy Magazine's endorsed professional motherhood photography communication). As elite creatives, each photographer was impressed with one another’s different photography and editing style and they decided to celebrate different women, all from different ethnicity, different stages in their pregnancies and in different settings, using the exact same dress to make their unique visions come to life. Each photographer had one single week with the dress, a custom design from Sew Trendy Accessories; styling the dress with their own creative vision and shooting it with their own style, before mailing it off to the next person. To avoid creatively influencing the vision of one another, the participating photographers agreed to refrain from sharing the images until each of them had the opportunity to shoot with the dress and submit their images for publish in the magazine. The dress traveled around the United States between eight participants, each very different in shooting style and artistic voice, we are so excited to share this collaboration with you!

I had the deep honor of photographing two mamas in waiting for my portion of the project. First time mama Jess ran away to the creek with me and dreamed in the water.

Sparrows; A Fairytale session with Jaime & Gracie

Denver fairytale photography child

As part of my personal work series of mother and child fairytale/spirit animal portraits, I ran a contest teamed up with Ally to offer one fairytale session on the house. The winner was Jaime and she was inspired by sparrows.

I love asking my fairytale clients which animal they feel inspired by because it's SO interesting to hear their responses. Sometimes it seems like you could guess but then they announce a surprise animal and you get all creatively juiced up!  Sparrows were a challenge for Ally & I but we were excited to jump in.

We decided to go with a Mary Cassatt type feel; motherly and warm with a focus on nesting.  We were thrilled when the weather looked wonderful that afternoon as we got the girls ready in hair and make up.

Of course, by the time we arrived at our location it had literally turned to freezing rain and gusting ICY wind.  We worked only for about 20 minutes before poor little Gracie had had enough and even us grown ups were starting to really feel the pain.

Both Jaime & Gracie were total troopers and their intense connection shone through the crazy weather to make for some truly breathtaking images.

Woods Witch; Mother & Daughter

Collaboration is the heart of creativity and when I got together with my favorite MUA and starting talking we came up with the idea for our woods witch/spirit animal series.

We wanted to play with ideas of motherhood as power and strength, women connected to the earth and their children, and of course the pure bond of love.

Ally bit the bullet and went first; embracing her inner 'raccoon' with her precious little one Ruby.

We were honored with publication in Beyond the Wanderlust for this series, so you can see more here!

I think Ally did an  amazing job of embracing her witchy self and showing off her MaMa-Powers!
