Baby Lia | A Denver Newborn Story

Meeting Shea & Zadie was an amazing experience when I made Shea's maternity portraits. Her open vulnerability and deep calm love helped shape the direction of my work this fall. So, needless to say, I was thrilled to come back and make their newborn portraits.

While I was over, I was struck by the patience, care and intention Shea has with her daughters. She took the time to engage with each of their feelings and tempers with gentle words and touch.

Before and After | A little BTS editing for you!

I'm a huge HUGE fan of before and afters; I grew up in the eighties when a make-over montage was a critical part of every movie. When I started photography, I worked in darkrooms and lived and breathed Ansel Adam's system of burning and dodging ( the Zone system, check it out!).

I decided it would be fun to share some before and afters of my own work here on the blog once a week.

SOOC - ‘the clean straight out of camera shot’
Post edit - adjusted for color and tone, cropped for emphasis, and straightened. Slight exposure adjustments, some very slight skin editing

Vintage Dresses and Spring Flowers| A Denver Toddler Mini

Ellie (4 of 12).jpg

Sometimes, as a creative, I get super inspired and impatient. I found a few adorable vintage christening gowns one day while browsing around with my little man and HAD to have them......even though I have no little gal to stuff into them. I was so impatient that day, restless with spring breezes and new ideas so I put up a last minute model call and Ellie's mom answered without any hesitation.

We met near one of my favorite spots to work and got right down to business. Little Ellie was a serious charmer, with her chubby cheeks and adorable shocked faces.

Mom was a total sport and when I begged to "toss Ellie in the creek" she was instantly game. Ellie herself was thrilled beyond all reason and never wanted to get back out.

After much bribery, we managed to get Ellie out of the water and into the second vintage dress; a darling little romper type outfit. It was a perfect fit and Ellie couldn't have looked any cuter!!!!

Towards the end of our very short session, Ellie suddenly had enough of nature ( I am with you girl!) but I couldn't resist grabbing a few images of that sweet chub crying, so precious!!!
