Vintage Dresses and Spring Flowers| A Denver Toddler Mini

Ellie (4 of 12).jpg

Sometimes, as a creative, I get super inspired and impatient. I found a few adorable vintage christening gowns one day while browsing around with my little man and HAD to have them......even though I have no little gal to stuff into them. I was so impatient that day, restless with spring breezes and new ideas so I put up a last minute model call and Ellie's mom answered without any hesitation.

We met near one of my favorite spots to work and got right down to business. Little Ellie was a serious charmer, with her chubby cheeks and adorable shocked faces.

Mom was a total sport and when I begged to "toss Ellie in the creek" she was instantly game. Ellie herself was thrilled beyond all reason and never wanted to get back out.

After much bribery, we managed to get Ellie out of the water and into the second vintage dress; a darling little romper type outfit. It was a perfect fit and Ellie couldn't have looked any cuter!!!!

Towards the end of our very short session, Ellie suddenly had enough of nature ( I am with you girl!) but I couldn't resist grabbing a few images of that sweet chub crying, so precious!!!

Toddlerhood with my sweet wild son | Denver Lifestyle Photography

My son is officially a toddler ( maybe that happened when he started walking 9 months ago?) and the house is basically a disaster filled with constant chatter. And I love it.  He breaks about 39473209587 things a day, hits head a minimum of about 10-15 times a day and thinks its HILARIOUS to poke my belly and yell BELLY HA!

I didn't anticipate having such a prankster and since he's also a photographer's kid ( who can't have his face on the internet, oh the agony) he has developed a series of jokes around having his picture taken that while they are very funny the first time, tend to lose their charm after 500 repeats.

Example 1: run as fast as you can towards the camera as soon as you notice mommy has it out.

Example 2: pretend to kiss the camera lens until you accidently get to close and hit your forehead on it.  Then cry a lot.

Example 3: make monster faces with accompanying growls until mommy gives up trying to capture whatever adorable thing was happening right before the camera came out.

Catching actual relaxed and natural moments of exploration is practically the impossible dream at this juncture in our toddlerhood but like anything difficult, it's SO REWARDING when it happens!!

A Day at the Farm with Ruby | Denver Lifestyle Photography

Denver lifestyle child photography

The other day ( before all the wind, snow and blizzards) my son and I spent a glorious morning on the Farm with little Ruby and her mama, Ally. Our kids just love hanging out and we mamams love seeing their little friendship grow.

Since I can't ever use images with my son's face on them in this blog, my portfolio or generally anywhere on the internet, Ruby is a good natured stand in for my clickin mom urges.

I kind of can't overstate how beautiful and idyllic this morning was. It was warm with a breeze to keep it from being too hot, sunny and blue skied, the animals were all out and filling the air with the comforting sounds and smells of farm animals.  Our little toddlers got to run free and wild, exploring, chasing and laughing for hours.

I hadn't thought before I had my son, about all the types of activities that would feel totally different as a mom. Watching him and Ruby discover the farm life and squeal with joy over each new item ( farm equipment or bales of hay) was just incredibly joyful to my heart.

If you happen to be getting stir crazy in the house or are just looking for something new to do, I HIGHLY recommend the Littleton Historic Museum!!
