Just like everyone, I adore the cute little images of babies covered in cake, happily smooshing frosting into their mouths. SO cute, so funny!
But lately, after several cake smash fails in a row I've started to wonder....who is the cake smash really for?
We actually did 3 separate cake smashes for my son, all about a week apart in the hopes that at some point he would get on board and be interested....NOPE.
I watched this past week as another mom tried very VERY hard to interest her child in a cake, to the point of frustration. Now, I LOVE cake, but I'm a grown up...why don't babies seem even at all interested? And if so few are really interested in smashing their face into a cake, where did this idea get started in the first place?
Don't get me wrong here, I enjoy this part of a one year session just as much as the tub, the bonding with parents, the showing off of new tricks... I love it all. I just wonder, trendy ideas aside...could we find a new thing that the baby actually likes?
I propose this: parents, you know your kiddos the best. Do they like sweets, new things and getting messy? If the answer is no, then maybe instead of powering through this cake smash fad we could do a new thing, a fun thing tailored just to them! Balloons, bubbles or confetti? Giant new stuffed animals! A ball pit? Kazoos!!! Who knows??!?!
I do stand by the bath though. It is always awesome, ALWAYS!!
